UPDATE 3/12/2010 Windchill's Law

Yesterday we received the amended version of the Bill, that addresses the concerns of the groups opposing us. We also changed the penalties so that it is not a higher felony if the abuse is done in front of a child, but the crime has an extended 2 year jail time. We are hoping that will appease everyone.
Now we are waiting for the groups opposing us to review the new version and basically sign off on it. Then Rep Milroy’s aide will contact the members of the Criminal Justice Committee and get their thoughts and when she is sure that we have enough votes, she will schedule a vote.
Then comes the real work :) Getting 50% yes votes from the Legislators and 50% yes votes from the Senators when the bill goes to the floor for the final vote.
Stay tuned for what you can do to help!

UPDATE 2/26/2010

Posted By Jeffrey L Tucker

The public hearing for WindChill’s Law, WI Senate Bill #555 is set:

Criminal Justice Committee
Wednesday, March 3rd
10:00 a.m.
Rm. 400 SE, WI State Capitol in Madison

Everyone who wants to speak will get the chance to do so, and needs to keep it to 3 minutes or less. You do not have to be a WI resident to speak, and it is best if we do not all repeat the same thing.

Please email, snail mail or call The Senate Justice Committee Members and ask for their support on this bill.

Lena Taylor [email protected] (608) 266-5810 CHAIR
Jim Sullivan [email protected] (608) 266-2512 V CHAIR
Randy Hopper [email protected] (608) 266-5300
Jon Erpenbach [email protected] (608) 266-6670
Glenn Grothman [email protected] (608) 266-7513

WindChill REALLY needs his family to rally on this: whether or not this bill goes any further depends entirely upon the Criminal Justice Committee’s vote, and this hearing is before them. PLEASE help us convince them of the need to change the laws–
